Minnesota Vikings quarterback J.J. McCarthy revealed that the team hasn't told him whether he'll be the starter in 2025 during an interview with Up & Adams host Kay Adams that aired on Tuesday (March 25).

"And I'm happy they didn't, because I try to earn it every single day. And I never want that to be given to me. it's such a privilege and opportunity to give me that chance and I'm just going to make the most of it every single day," McCarthy said from the NFLPA Classic golf tournament in Mexico.

The Vikings reportedly passed on former four-time NFL MVP Aaron Rodgers with many speculating that their intention was to start McCarthy, who was selected at No. 10 overall in the 2024 NFL Draft before suffering a season-ending ACL injury in preseason.

"I would say I'm 100%," McCarthy said when asked about his recovery before adding he was still "consistent with the rehab process."

Minnesota opted not to franchise tag Sam Darnold, who had a career renaissance during his lone season with the franchise before signing with the Seattle Seahawks this offseason.

Daniel Jones, who spent the latter half of the 2024 season on the Vikings' practice squad, also signed with the Indianapolis Colts. McCarthy was just months removed from leading Michigan Wolverines to an undefeated season and College Football Playoff National Championship Game victory when he was selected by the Vikings last April, concluding his collegiate career with a 27-1 record as a starter.
